University of Manchester Collections

This collection showcases the exhibition, The Life of Objects, which runs from the 16th of March until 27th of August 2017 at The John Rylands Library, Manchester. All objects have something to say. They communicate ideas, transmit knowledge and invite emotional responses. The Library is home to thousands of books, but it also houses many unique objects, which have their own tales to tell. The objects in this exhibition were owned or used by significant figures that made their mark in the world. Yet, these ‘things’ can also confront big universal themes that affect us all: birth, death, childhood, love, inspiration, work, friendship, and legacy. With thanks to The LYC Foundation who has given permission to use images of Li Yuan chia’s artistic works and The Prinknash Abbey Trustees who have given permission to use images of dom sylvester houédard’s works.
